TRADITIONAL STEAM VS. "AGILE STEAM"

Integrating Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics

Traditional STEM encompasses four (4) discipline we understand as "Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics." Each of these disciplines operates in distinct but interrelated domains of value discovery and creation, wherein conceptual "assets" from one domain are integrated into other disciplines in lower domains as "resources" that are used to create "assets" for integration into other disciplines. These causal connections result from the underlying ecosystems governing our reality and AGILE Ecosystems. The methodology defines a formal rubric for systematically increasing the efficiency, effectiveness, and resource generation capacity. AGILE Ecosystems Methodology defines this process as Innovation Asset Development.


For example, scientific principles or “scientific assets” generate engineering formulas or “engineering resources,” which are then used to design specific product Technologies. Engineering principles, or “engineering assets,” generate “technology resources,” the specific products created. In short, the integration of assets and resources of these three domains led to the creation of a “scientifically-engineered-technology-product.” The last discipline, Mathematics, is transcendent because it is the language of objectivity. It is the intellectual construct that integrates Science, Engineering, and Technology to perceive, understand, characterize and change the physical world beyond nature.


So, STEM is the gateway to our understanding and manipulation of the physical world. Still, Art is the gateway to understanding ourselves and how to explore the many dimensions of human experience. STEM shows us how to see and understand what the world is, but ART helps us understand why it is, what it is and why it’s important to us. Art defines the domain of subjective experience human beings have with STEM. It provides the context for how STEM can help or harm human beings and/or nature to enhance or degrade the quality of life and human civilization's sustainability on this planet.

INTEGRATION OF THE STEAM DISCIPLINES

AGILE STEAM Maps Human Consciousness and Behaviors

Perhaps one of the most profound discoveries of AGILE Theory and AGILE Methodology is AGILE STEAM. AGILE STEAM is a formal rubric for deconstructing any ecosystem regarding how it will interact with human beings. What AGILE Ecosystem Theory posits and has demonstrated is that all Ecosystems operate in six domains of value creation and application. AGILE Ecosystem Theory identifies that four of the six domains of academic inquiry exemplified by the STEM disciplines we use to explore, characterize, interact and control the natural world has their analog in the conceptual world of human consciousness and experience. Human consciousness and experience are structured in the same way STEM disciplines are defined and integrated. 


This correlation between traditional "academic" STEAM and "personal" or "human" or "spiritual" STEAM is, therefore, possible because ALL ecosystems are structured in the same way. What this means is that in the same systematic way we can understand the "objective" natural or physical world through "traditional STEAM," we can also understand the subjective dimensions of human life through "AGILE STEAM." Formal ecosystems are the key to understanding and systematically integrating human consciousness and behaviors to address and solve complex AND complicated social problems. 

 

The ecosystem structure illuminates the causal connections that traditional scientific discovery methods do not recognize or detect. Therefore, AGILE Practitioners have the unprecedented ability to map complex human ecosystems, which are, by definition, impossible to fully understand and optimize with the tools of science, engineering, math, and technology alone. Complicated problems are the domain of traditional STEAM. But now, with the advent of AGILE Ecosystems Methodology, "subjective" and complex human ecosystems can finally be understood and optimized because the underlying ecosystems which govern them are now visible.
